bryan nash gill takes incredible wood prints from (surprise!) actual pieces of wood.  the man must be insane with the prices he dreams up, but isn't it delightful that through the power of the internet you can see this lovely thing without purchasing it?

what is super interesting about this print, though, is the weird tree ring pattern going on here.  each one of those rings grows uniformly around the tree every spring and summer, but Gill carves slight bumps and ridges into the face of the stump to get those tight clusters of rings. you can see how he made it here or (have lotsa dollars?) buy it here.

ms. ciesemier's rough n' tough bruiser girls

i've just moved into my new house, and while there's lots of beautiful prints that i have the pleasure of owning (hi there, dan mccarthy and daniel danger!) i have a giant soft spot for the roller derby print given to me by the kind folks at the extra-delicious zella's pizzeria in Baltimore.

Not only does Baltimore in general and the Charm City Roller Girls in specifics kick ass, but the Roller Girls also happen to have some amazing artists creating their promo posters. The one I am happy to have hung next to the liquor cabinet is below - what a beaut! have you ever seen a bruise you wanted to poke more than the one on her thigh?

james dean gives me good dreams

for the past two years i've dreamt of swimming. it's not as frequent nowadays - maybe once every few weeks - but at one point i went swimming nightly.

this fantastic print by james dean makes me think about calmly harnessing what my brain thinks about when the rest of me is asleep.

ohmigoodness. "our circle is vicious" by j. bannon, and available in silver or gold. each is embossed, screened and signed by the artist.

as if the design of the thing wasn't lovely enough, mr. bannon graced it with glittery hand mixed metallic paint. the generosity! there are simply not enough gentlemen making posters in the world.

do yourself a favor and buy yourself one (or, at the very least, buy ME one) here.

Cardon Copy's secret graphic designing benevolence

Cardon Webb has this project called Cardon Copy. He's a spectacularly benevolent and talented individual who finds hand-made signs on telephone poles and fixes them up, lovingly, to become the kinda posters that elicit jaw-drops. He gives a new prospective on the usefulness of good design, and his choice to put his art on street corners is an accessable kind of approach that is dear to my heart. How noble! I would love to make this fellow some cookies (I make great dark chocolate raspberry macaroons, Cardon).
